11:09 am - I've Moved
Okay, so you might not know this but I have moved. I built my own site and have moved the journal there. I kept the Digital Man's Outtakes title so you can find it in the residents page.

Please go to: www.heathville.com to see more.

It's been fun!

12:32 am - Night Moves
Here I am at work in the middle of a crystal clear night again when I could be at home with my scope looking at the stars and a full moon. I am waiting for Saturn and Jupiter to start their decent in the western horizon during twighlight soon. I should be able to get some good views then although 4am would be nice too.

There was supposed to be a meteor *storm* last night but I only spotted a couple pieces of dust streak through the sky. I expected more, however here at the plant the outside lighting is enough for a football game.

I'm scheduled to have a meeting with the pointy-haired bossman about re-arranging my already approved vacation at Christmas. The other supervisor is taking time off the week prior to me and it would work out that the lead to cover would have to work an 8 day stretch of 12 hours each. The boss wants him to have a couple days off in the middle which isn't a bad idea. Thing is, this is the same boss that when I scheduled time off in the past and the other super might have to work 12 days in a row, he thought that was not "unusual for management work". Just make up the mind and let's move on shall we?

Currently I have been busy getting ready for the LRQA ISO audit in a couple weeks. I hope were ready. When I took over as Management Representative, the system was pretty messed up and noone could understand the standard. I had about 2 weeks to learn what I could before they were to come last May. I learned so much during that time from the auditors themselves and developed and internal system to keep document control in control. We almost didn't make it because of how un-prepared we were, but we received our certification. I hope that my doc control girl has kept up like she said she would. I have been checking and it looks promising, but I won't fully know until the audit.

Well, I've just been paged back to the plant. Seems tonight is one of those, shall we say, full moon nights?

2:17 am - Shoes are made for walking
Steven has been busy the last couple days trying to stand and walk on his own. Just today he played by my feet for a little while, climbed up my pant-leg, gave me a big smile and let go. At first I started to reach out for him but stopped myself when he gave me a lot that said "Wait Daddy. Let me show you". He seemed to want to show me what he had been working on and how proud he was.

He hovered there for a bit, swaying just a little while he was trying to find his "center". Then he reached out and grabbed my leg and said "Heyyyy!". He is also reaching for everything. We got an old keyboard, cut off the cord, and gave that to him. He just loves it. When I am on Endeavor or Excelsior working on projects, he comes around the corner in his walker with the keyboard and we both code for a while. He reaches for the mouse when he is up on my lap and tries to work the machine. It's almost time for some interactive learning material we can install for him.

I am enjoying how everyday is an adventure with Steven. When I am with him, it's easy to see how things I take for granted, can be wondrous.

12:37 am - OO Baby
My wife called me tonight to let me know about something that happened at home. See...we have this stationary play pen that a friend of the family gave to us for Steven. Well for a while now it has worked out great. He loved to be in it and as you can see by the picture in the link, he can play with all kinds of toys and just have to move in a circle to get to new ones.

Apparently this was not enough for our little Steven. Tonight, after my wife changed him looked away to put some things away, he grabbed the edge with his hands and pulled himself out. He not only pulled himself out of the holder, but over and onto the floor in just a matter of two seconds, Pam didn't even know until he was lying on the floor playing with the other toys on the bottom of the activity center.

She now has nicknamed him Popeye, since for Halloween we were going to be Popeye, Olive Oil and Sweepea. Guess it's all the peas, carrots and spinach he loves so much?

11:42 pm - Memory Dept
I've been thinking about how I would present the concept of weblogs to members of my family. See, a lot of the members have barely used a computer. So the idea of internet blogging will be quite foreign to them.

I thought I would tell them that blogs are journals, websites, thoughts and scribblings of either profound or mundane happenings. Little pieces of yourself, dropped off onto the internet for everyone to see. I wanted to say something great about it, but what? What to say?

Then tonight, while browsing the various places I roam, I came across Gary Turner's thought that blogs can "act as a form of memory which is richer both quantitively and qualitively and which records information at a much higher resolution". A memory of not only personal thoughts but significant events of our lifetime. What's more is something I had not thought about. The Internet Archive is there to preserve these scraps of history as we are making them. We, the blogging community, have our own place in the history books of tomorrow. What will they teach our children about us?

I remember starting a news grouping service similar to Lockergnome's Bits and Bytes. I had forgotten what it was like since the server went down a while ago and took all the backups with it until I found it on The Internet Archive. It was pretty funny what I was trying to do at the time, but it was my start.

5:04 pm - The porcelain god
I can't believe he did that. I would be in so much trouble and doubt I would ever be talked to again.

Been very busy today. No movie editing today, but a lot of work nonetheless. I really hate not being able to tell everyone what the work is, but it's a Christmas present and who reads this blog is who it's for.

I hope I can get the last few bits of info from my family soon so I can complete the project. I need to get back to my schooling and working on Episode 2 as well. That I hope will be finished before Christmas so I can give copies to everyone.

9:30 am - Sunglasses at night
My family and I went with my bro Scott, his wife, Grant and Mom to Logan's last night. It was a lot of fun. Grant and Steven loved seeing each other again. After dinner, we went to Scott's and let the kids play. They had so much fun together. There was one time while Steven was holding himself up at the coffee table, he fell over and onto Grant. Steven's head hit Grant in the mouth and Grant began to cry. Steven was so upset and felt bad for Grant that he cried and went over and hugged Grant. He wanted to try and say he was sorry.

Watching him today while Pam is at work. She told me this morning that last night he had a slight fever and wasn't feeling very well. Right now he is all smiles and giggles while I am listening to 80's music. Cory Hart and his Sunglasses.

Don't mess around with the guy in shades.

3:18 pm - Every so often
Every so often, while I am playing with Steven, I think about how lucky I am. I feel lucky to live in the country I live in. I feel lucky to have a roof over my head, food in my stomach and to have the wife, child and family that I have been blessed with.

It's funny that I don't see all these things sometimes, but its only due to the fact that I am, as most are, running around at about 100 miles an hour to do everything I want to do.

The weather has been cold and stormy a few days ago. Pam, Steven and I were headed out the door to do more shopping and bundled Steven up in his blue sweater suit.
Steven Cold!

He loves to be outdoors and watching the storm come in was minutes of fun for him.

12:29 am - Happy Birthday Dad
Just want to give a shout out to say happy birthday to dad. He had one yesterday. Called to send my best wishes and offer some technical support in case he needed it. He just made the leap to XP from 98. Although there haven’t been as many calls as I thought there would be. I don’t know if he is just doing alright, or he just doesn’t want to call.

Mom’s prognosis is good after the surgery. The drops she has been putting into her eyes since the operation have burned her terribly, but as the days go by, they aren’t hurting so bad. She has been able to see out of the eye the doctors worked on as well as being able to read road signs and street names. Might not sound like too much to you, but to mom, who has not been able to see without severe corrective lenses for many, many years; it’s a miracle.

Pam and I have our Costco card now. It’s an Executive membership. Pays 2% back annually on purchases. Pam calls it the $200 store because of buying so much in there and I think she is right. When we went in this weekend we found a few deals and bought only a few things, but the total came to about $85 and we hadn’t done any grocery shopping yet. I wonder if the discount on computers and gadgets will be worthwhile?

2:18 pm - Time for Insomniac's Panic
okay so the titles a little weird. Couldn't think of anything else

Daddy is the new word of the house. Boo is getting used to saying it. Well, more it comes out “Da da da “ The other day, he turned right to me and with a very loud demanding voice said “DA!” Pam and I both laughed and he just looked at us like we had lost our minds.

Pam is threatening to tape a computer keyboard to her butt so I will pay more attention to her. I am spending a lot of time here on this site and other projects and she is noticing that I have this blank “Pink” (obscure movie reference) look on my face. So I need to spend some more time with her when she is here. One thing we have done this weekend is rented a few more DVD’s to watch. We rented Insomnia, Panic Room and The Time Machine. Insomnia was pretty good. Was kinda weird watching Robin Williams in that roll.

Getting ready to go get a Costco card. They have offered them at our plant, but paying money to be able to pay money at a store just seems really weird to me. Mum had gone ahead and re-upped her card and put me on the account, so now we will have one. Way to go mom.

12:47 am - One Bad Ass...
After performing a little searching to see if my site is even listed or not, I came across this. Now you may or may not know that everyone calls me Digital Man because of all the gadgets I run around with all the time. But this...
Digita Man!
In a futuristic world, the military has dispensed with human soldiers and instead uses robots that are programmed to win, no matter what the cost...

Hmm, I wonder what the movie was like?

7:51 pm - Primping and Pimping
Since I actually found a use for my web cam now, I have found that before I turn it on I make sure I have my shower and shave and generally look nice. (yes I know it won't help ;) Tonight will be different since I just get tonight off work before I head back tomorrow night and I am just feeling lazy.

Pam said that I should just be myself and there is no reason why I should have to be all clean and nice for the cam. She also referred to Gretchen's post and after I thought about it, I decided to just go in my robe and relax. So you are warned.

Mum's surgery went well and they expect that she will have 20/20 vision after both eyes are done and will only need reading glasses. That will be nice for her since she hasn't had good vision for a lot of years.

I'm probably going to be up very late tonight working on some projects. It also looks like Endeavor (my computer) is going to need a rebuild as well. The operating system, XP, is acting very stubborn. ;(

1:10 am - Better sit down kids...
I was going to tear my hair out and set fire to the building, but I thought that would be too lame.

Last week I had just enough to go crazy. I think I could have been diagnosed legally insane by Friday morning. The kids (my employees) could not do the basic functions of work to save them at all. It made me question if they had help dressing themselves!

No worries though. That's why I'm a professional? That's why I get paid the big bucks. Actually I make less? When did that happen? I pushed forth all last week and could not get anywhere with this crew who were as green as a leprechaun's party suit. This week something must have clicked or the fear of no longer having this glorious job kicked in and they helped out. I was on the floor for most of my week and they worked real hard, worked together and, dare I say it, TRIED!

Think I will get them a pizza or something just to say thanks for giving it a good shot. ;)

Mom's having Cataract surgery today. Since I have to work allnight, my lovely wife is going to help my mum to the doctors and then she will be staying with us for a little while. It's better this way so I don't worry so much about her trying to do to many things on her own and not actually able to SEE!!!

5:29 pm - Baby Sitting
Been watching Steven a little bit today. Pam had to go to work today because she is going to take my mom to the doctors on Wednesday. She is getting some kind of surgery done to her eyes, not LAYSIK, but something else. Details are kinda sketchy since she didn't tell us about it until last week and I haven't had a chance to talk to her yet.

"Boo" has been somewhat of a pill today, but I think mainly that's due to him teething more. He ate real good, but just as I was getting him to sleep the phone rang. I had to put him back down and let him cry until he just collapsed and fell asleep that way. I feel bad when I have to do that, but he was exhausted and need a nap. ;)

3:56 pm - Big Movie Weekend
It's been a big movie weekend for us. I had to work an extra day to let the other supervisor off on Halloween. Not a big deal really but on Friday I just wanted to relax and not do much. Pam rented some movies: The New Guy, Coyote Ugly and Big Fat Liar. Funny thing is, besides the girls looking very nice in Coyote and New Guy (especially Eliza Dushku) those movies were just kinda okay. Big Fat Liar was actually the most entertaining of the three. I dunno, maybe I was just in that kinda mood.

Saturday I worked more on the Chrismas present. It's really coming together. Also, the first 20 minute segment of "Toy Matinee" is in the can. Or should I say in the cassette?

That was about all I did this weekend. It was nice.

5:14 pm - Boo!
I had to work last night so there was no real trick-or-treating going on for Steven. He is a little too young for that just yet anyway. We did go to my work so the office staff could see him in his costume.

While we were in LA we made a visit to a Disney store. While there Steven eyeballed a Winnie the Pooh costume. He likes Winnie anyway and it seemed that he really wanted it. It's a nice costume although a little hot for him and he doesn't like to get hot. Anyway, here is a picture of him.

12:40 am - Hello... Mr. Obvious?
long time listener. first time caller.

Listening to Bob and Tom yesterday morning. There really isn't any other good morning radio up here in NorCal. Mark and Bryan don' t really get my vote either. I haven't listened to them very much but each time I do, I am more annoyed than with Bob and Tom.

Anyway, they sometimes have a snippet on called "The Mr. Obvious Show" where radio listeners call in about some problems. Yesterday we get some young guy call in about his problems of not having one of his legs. Mr. Obvious talks to him for a bit and shows sympathy towards the fellow. Turns out there was a $200 prize for the best halloween costume. Apparently the caller had a pirates costume and cut off his leg to be more "authentic". Mr. Obvious was dumbfounded at this person who did this, but the caller had told Mr. Obvious that it was okay. He didn't miss his leg half as much as his eye! hehehahaha.

I was laughing so hard. Well I was a little hazy after work so maybe that was it. :P

3:57 pm - Go Angels
First thing I want to say is...GO ANGELS! The Angels win the world series. Playing 7 exciting games and all the way down to the wire. Pam and I got caught up in the excitement of the series while visiting family down in SOCAL. Pam's father is a big Angels fan as well as my own dad. Dad said that the Angels haven't been in the series for 42 years and they worked hard for it.

Well, I will finish this off now since I need to get ready for work, but for those of you who think I should be a Giants fan since I am northern cali, sorry. Since I had lived in LA before and Dad taking us to baseball games down there, I have been an Angels/Dodgers fan. As far as football goes - RAIDERS!

10:47 pm - Cow Tipping
Dad and I just went and purchased a new computer system. This one for him. I talked with Dad on the phone several times before making the trip to LA and he mentioned several times that he would be interested in a new computer. After several discussions about the right one to buy, we went with Gateway.

The 500s system was at the country store we went to visit. At first I thought we were going to get the low end 300 system since he doesn't do much more than some major spreadsheets and some photo edits and family tree's. However after a lengthy discussion at the store, along with him telling me that it would be his last computer purchase, we decided let's go with some more power and frills. So the 500s 2.4ghz system is setup and working great. As a matter of fact the new v.92 modem is helping with his hurting internet connection.

So now I am sure that the support calls coming in will be quite a few, but that's what fun is helping Dad out. Now that he's on the XP bandwagon, it will be just that much easier.
